Yonim's Memorial Garden, Oakland Hebrew Day School
Oakland, California | 2021
Designed and painted for a memorial garden honoring Yonim Schweig, a former student of Oakland Hebrew Day School. Inspired by Yonim's love of sailing and the natural world, the mural depicts a sailboat on the open sea, coastal cliffs, and soaring doves. The doves hold special significance, as yonim means “doves” in Hebrew.
Created in collaboration with sculptor Cjay Roughgarden, whose three-dimensional doves extend the painted imagery into the surrounding space, the mural provides a setting for reflection, remembrance, and community.
